Scary Cute Ugly

I couldn't decide which kind of monster to draw, so I decided to draw different kinds of monsters sitting at a table having some coffee and cookies.

Originally, there were supposed to be four monsters, but I thought it would be an interesting idea to show only three monsters and have the spectator be the fourth one.

So, what do you think? If you were the fourth character, what kind of monster would you be and what drink would you be having?

No podía decidir qué tipo de monstruo dibujar, así que decidií elaborar diferentes tipos de monstruos sentados una mesa tomando café y comiendo galletas.

Originalmente, se suponía que eran cuatro monstruos, pero pensé que sería una idea interesante mostrar solamente tres monstruos y que el espectador sea el cuarto.

Así que, ¿qué les parece? Si ustedes fueran el cuarto personaje, ¿qué clase de monstruo serían y qué bebida estarían tomando?

¡Cuidado al buscar trabajo creativo!

¡Cuidado con este tipo de ofertas para trabajo creativo! It’s a trap!

“Estamos buscando guionistas, escritores, copys y creativos en general, para tener un pool de gente que pueda crear guiones de un minuto de animación para empresas o proyectos.”

El formato de solicitud no menciona información real de la compañía, sólo pone como ejemplo el trabajo creativo de otras compañías:

“(ver como referencia: http://youtu.be/QSy41lJeyVQ y también ver el "portafolio" de www.switchvideo.com hay muchos videos de ese estilo)”

El anuncio especifica que el candidato debe tener “experiencia en guiones ultra-cortos.” Esto significa que el candidato ya debe tener un book o portafolio creativo que comprueba su experiencia. Aun así, advierten que van a solicitar trabajo de prueba GRATIS para comprobar la experiencia de los candidatos:

“Después de que llenes el formulario te mandaremos un mail para hacer un pequeño ejercicio (es parte de nuestro proceso de selección) y así conocer tu creatividad.”

Las compañías le pueden llamar de diferentes maneras; “ejercicio”, “prueba”, “muestra original”, “boceto”. Pero al final de cuentas todo significa lo mismo: es trabajo especulativo que no te van a pagar.

El contenido de tu book o portafolio creativo es suficiente para que estas compañías tomen una decisión. Las ideas cuestan y si las compañías solicitan trabajo especulativo, lo tienen que pagar.

Tu trabajo creativo tiene valor, las compañías lo saben, y se van a aprovechar de ti si lo permites.  Las compañías lo siguen haciendo porque los creativos siguen respondiendo a estas solicitudes.

Para las compañías ésta es una manera fácil de acumular ideas creativas sin gastar dinero. Se van a quedar con tu idea y no te van a llamar. ¡No regales tu trabajo!

Well, before I say goodbye to the month of May, I want to say happy 30th Anniversary to one of my favorite movies of all time: 'Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi' :) So, here's Princess Leia.  I remembered that she was wearing that metal bikini against her will, so, that's why she looks pissed of.

Superman - 75th Anniversary

Back in 1938, writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster created Superman, a fictional character that helped create the superhero genre, and also, in essence, the modern comic book industry. For his 75th anniversary, I made this tribute to that first issue of Action Comics #1.

So, I was chatting with my friend, Adrián “The Insane One” Zambrano, a.k.a. “Insaneo” (the man from Tuna Town, a.k.a. Ensenada, who inspired the character of the same name in my webcomic “Nerdmigos”), and the movie Seven Psychopaths came up.  He hadn't seen it, but I said to him that it reminded me of his awesome short stories (read some at his blog, Recomendablemente Apto) and his writing style, and that it inspired me to do a little bit more writing and that I wanted to look for a creative writing workshop or course somewhere.   And he said:
